Financial Planning Overview

As fiduciary financial planners, we have a duty to understand not merely what is suitable but what is the best that we can do for you.

To do that, we first get to know you. This usually involves developing a written Personal Financial Plan.

The Personal Financial Plan includes financials--income statement and balance sheet--but also your interests, tolerance for risk, and long-term goals.

Our goal is to maximize your long term utility which usually means maximizing your after-tax wealth.

Once you, with our help, isolate specific financial goals (e.g. desired future retirement date, income needs during retirement, funding a child's education, estate plan preferences, etc.), investments to achieve those goals are made through a number of financial products.

We do not engage in day-trading or any short-term market plays. We strive for long term appreciation using passive investments that seek to minimize fees as well as taxable events.

Our favorite stock market investment is the Dimensional Fund family. More information on Dimensional is found on the Investment Planning page and in the Library where you will find a link to the Dimensional web site. We think you will enjoy reading about the academic underpinning of the Dimensional strategy.

For Estate Planning needs, we will help you develop a plan to transfer wealth as efficiently as possible to protect your wishes and to minimize estate taxes. To draw up various trust documents, we would work with your attorney or we can bring in our own.

We will provide a risk management assessment to evaluate your insurance needs and current life policies. We can provide life insurance and long-term care policies. We do not engage in insurance products other than life, long-term care, and annuities.
